MICHAEL BARNARD

Partner

Michael is the managing partner at MBR Tree Service and is also the lead climber. Having spent most of his adult life performing dangerous jobs. From Deploying overseas in the U.S. Marine Corps, to being a tower climber, a Federal Agent with Homeland Security, and a bouncer at a bar. He accomplished all this and more while earning a Bachelor’s Degree from The Rochester Institute of Technology. It wasn’t until he found his calling in Arboriculture that he decided to make it his life long career.

Michael grew up in Genesee County and was an avid outdoorsman. The call to be of service was always one that he knew he needed to answer and in 2005 he did just that. Enlisting in the Marine Corps at 18 years old and deploying to Iraq one year later. Michael would go on to deploy two more times, for a total of three combat deployments; two to Iraq and one to Afghanistan. These deployments gave him the leadership qualities and responsibility needed to run a successful company.

Once employed by Monroe County Parks Dept. Michael started to rise quickly within the ranks and became a supervisor of his own park in three years. Having spent most of his young adult life working with his hands and overcoming obstacles, it was easy to see the benefits that he brought to the position. Michael has instructed multiple classes for Monroe County on tree felling, forces and vectors of tree work, knot tying, introduction to climbing, and first aid safety. He is also a member of the DEC Region 8 “Re-Leaf” group for urban forestry.

BRAYDEN KANE

Partner

Brayden Kane is the second partner at MBR Tree Service and is in charge of all ground operations. Brayden grew up immersed in music and became an avid music producer. He was also an athlete competing in soccer, hockey, basketball, and baseball. Brayden has always been immersed in the outdoors since he was a kid; whether it was mowing, helping with yard work, or gardening. He has also worked for as a cashier, a maintenance technician, and a delivery/setup coordinator with Nolan’s Rental Inc.

In 2020 Brayden was hired by Monroe County Parks Dept. and found his passion for arboriculture. As a member of the park staff he spent his time honing his skills and knowledge of arboriculture and forestry. Some of the skills he has trained on include common tree removal practices, proper safety practices according to ANSI Z133, knot tying, operation of all forestry equipment, and preventative maintenance on all equipment. Outside of working for the county Brayden has spent his time learning biology of northeastern tree species and their requirements for health and maintenance. This study has allowed him to gain a better understanding of how to properly care for trees.

In January of 2021 Michael transferred parks and became the supervisor at Brayden’s park. As it turned out, both had a passion for arboriculture and many shared interests. This was the first time that Brayden was instructed on climbing and he found that he had a passion for it. Both of them learned and shared ideas with each other which cultivated a respected bond amongst them. They were constantly trying new ideas, new techniques, and different equipment types to gain a better understanding of the job. They decided that they wanted to pursue more outside of working for the county and started MBR Tree Service in the summer of 2022.
